World XI Draws 1-1 With Japan/Korea XI in Exhibition Match

YOKOHAMA, Japan, 1.3.01 - In a preview of the 2002 World Cup Final venue, a World XI squad featuring Jose Luis Chilavert, Lothar Matthus and Aaron Winter drew with a split XI squad of the cup host nations Japan and Korea, 1-1.

A crowd of 46,740 braved the winter teperatures to see the Asian XI outplay the World XI in the first half. South Korea's Ko-Jung scored in the 17th minute on a free kick against World XI keeper Jose Luis Chilavert of Paraguay. Chilavert missed an opportunity to strike back with a free kick in the 30th minute.

The second half belonged to the World XI. Croatia's Robert Prosinecki proved to be the difference as entered the game in the 46th minute. After much close play, Prosinecki slipped past Asian XI defenders to score the tying goal against Japan's Daijiro Takakuwa in the 72nd minute.
