DJALMA SANTOS
Portuguesa (Spain)
Plameiras, Atlético
1952-72

The rock-solid right back for the great Brazilian Cup teams of 1958 and 1962, Djalma Santos was the first Brazilian player to make 100 caps. The length of his career is a testament to his skills, and even in the twilight of his career he was still called into action in 1966 World Cup Finals against England. Known for his soccer sense and field smarts, he often marked the opponent's fastest wing. In 1958 he was played only in the final itself to mark Swedish left-winger Skoglund because of his excellent positioning skills. A career highlight was his appearance for the World XI against England in 1963, a match that celebrated the 100th anniversary of the FA.
